Chromalloy Investing in Nevada Plant Chromalloy Gas Turbine

LLC is investing $6 million in its 192,000-sq-ft. metalcasting facility in Carson City, Nev., to improve process flow and efficiency, according to local news reports. The facility casts fan blades

for gas turbine engines found in commercial aerospace, military and energy industries. Accord- ing to Northern Nevada Business Weekly, Chromalloy plans to install larger furnaces, cut the distance traveled for parts in the facility from 2.5 miles to 0.25 miles, and upgrade machining, heat treating and coating equipment. The new furnaces should be able to handle larger molds in higher quantities to improve efficiency and throughput. The furnace installations and layout changes are expected to be complete by October. Total renovations should wrap up in the spring of 2013. Chromalloy expects to reduce turnaround times for repair work and parts from 20 to 14 days. Chromalloy has evolved from

a gas turbine parts repair business into an independent supplier of advanced repairs, FAA-approved replacement parts, and mainte- nance, repair and overhaul for gas turbines used in aviation and land-based applications. The company also operates an

investment casting facility, Chromalloy Castings, in Tampa, Fla. (pictured).
