ROWAN Brand Manager Kate Buller talks us through a typical four weeks in the job
The last 4 weeks have been amazingly busy. This time of year always is with the different global shows. First there was the TNNA trade show in Columbus, USA, where we presented the AW 2012 collections to the retail stores. Most of them had seen and ordered the collection, however, they all still love to attend the show to see the actual garments and meet the team. This season we had a show exclusive, a new development with our Kidsilk Haze yarn, however I’m afraid that’s all I am allowed to say for now. Back at the show, the hours are long and demanding, but we always make sure there’s still time for socialising in the evenings with colleagues and customers. One evening, we had the pleasure of being invited to an independent designer’s masked party, which proved to be very entertaining. Prizes were given for the best mask. There were some beautiful knitted pieces which really did feed the imagination, but, I have to report that for reasons best known to the judges, they decided to take the humorous approach and give first prize to the lady who had made her mask out of a man’s underpants.
I flew back after the show for a few days back at base, then I was off to Florence for the Pitti Filati show. This heralds the beginning of the next season AW 2013, where we meet with all of our suppliers. This trip is one of my favourites, with magical Florence as one’s backdrop, delicious Italian food and the anticipation of whether we will find that winning yarn for the new season. All in all, an inspiring mix. Now it’s time for a few weeks off with my husband in the sun to recharge the batteries for the up and coming launch of the next season.
