Its audience of 75.36m last week was 26.78% more than nearest challenger Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe. This is
will.i.am: Sales chart success is coupled with a 10-place leap at radio
22 times last week –more than any other song. Its biggest supporters, however, were Smash Hits (54 plays), KISS 100, 101 and 105-108 (46 plays each) and The Hits (45 plays). This Is Love’s ascension to the
41.08% increase in audience (from 28.83m to 40.67m).
Will.i.am’s cause was helped considerably by Radio 1, which aired This Is Love
top of Radio 1’s most-played list is at the expense of Feel The Love by Rudimental feat. John Newman. The latter title has been by far Radio 1’s favourite song of the past 12 weeks, during which it has racked up a phenomenal 260 plays on the network, topping its most-played list five times in six weeks, with a peak tally of 32 plays. Although it topped the OCC sales chart, Feel The Love has
never had anything like the same level of support it enjoys from Radio 1 on other stations. Ironically, as its tally of 20 plays on Radio 1 is its lowest there for eight weeks, it actually reaches a new peak on the overall airplay chart this week, climbing 21-18. In an ultra-competitive battle for
TV airplay chart honours, the top eight all increase support, with Cheryl’s Call My Name returning to No.1 by a small margin – its promotional videoclip added 40 extra plays week-on-week to finish with 589 plays, dethroning Flo Rida’s Whistle, which slips to two, despite increasing its tally of plays from 549 to 580.
