JAMES FERRARO, EUROPEAN TOUR

How near, how Ferraro? Post-modern pop renegade James Ferraro on European tour

APART from dressing a little like a member of The Rogues (you know, the baddie gang who framed The Warriors) – he is from NY after all – James Ferraro is one of our most signifi cant contributors to (post)-modern pop music. His latest album, 2011’s ‘Far Side Virtual’ (Hippo In Tanks), which mashes up everything from Disney jingles to sounds ripped straight from his Windows Media Desktop, was one of the most intriguing of the year. Riffi ng on the facets of cyber-culture, sampling TV skits and layering sequential bites from ‘80s movie, ‘90s muzak and Atari video game soundtracks, Ferraro’s music sprawls like a digital stream

of consciousness; a nostalgic CGI dream. As orchestral as it is synthetically cut and pasted, his pseudo-retro vision is a conceptual one, delivered decoratively, emotionally but with absolute accessibility despite its angular formula. Art-pop at its fi nest. As part of a European tour touching Primavera, Berghain and Milan, UK and Irish heads can witness this creative renegade in solitary action live at The Joinery (Dublin, 16th June), The Berkeley Suite (Glasgow, 17th June) and Birthdays (London, 18th June).
