For the 2012/13 Autumn/Winter season GDS formulates twelve Focus Trends. These perfectly reflect the innovative power of shoe and bag fashions.
Focus Urban Outdoor
Cool & the city. Striking mountaineering styles with hiking and snow boots accompany trendsetters on their crusade through the winter metropolis. Defying temperatures below zero we find robust leather, high-tech materials and real sheepskin. Chunky, treaded soles and sandwich and ultra-light micro-cell sole floors ensure good grip on any ground. Contrasting appliqués create fresh accents in an overall discreet tone.
Focus Chukka. Chukka boots and tobacco pouch styles reflect that desire for natural flair and tradition. The term ‘chukka’ comes from India indicating a period of continuous play in a polo match. Popular in the 40s/50s as men’s leisure footwear chukka boots with their characteristic bulky seam now cut a fine figure as a unisex style. We see this look teamed with casual tobacco pouch styles. Soft suede and supple threaded soles are indispensable here.
Focus Folk
References to Nordic and South American folklore make their mark on casual sneakers and ankle and high-leg boots. Traditional designs with a spectrum ranging from Indian and Scandinavian through to Alpine patterns are depicted in a textile and leather mix. Colourful wool and felt inserts, fringes, embroidery and beading interpret the 21st century folklore look in a modern and contemporary way.
Focus High Loafers Focus Radical Clean
Loafers and college shoes inject new life into Brit chic with a dash of irony. High, mostly block heels, often in combination with a little platform, add sporty elegance to styles with soft rounded or blocklike square lasts. The authentic feel is completed here by two-tone looks and details like tassels and moccasin seams and by the typical Penny Loafer leather strip.
Less is more. Shape and materials decide on class and style. High quality, clean materials, tidy styles and as little decoration as possible – these are the demands made on modern, purist shoe styles. The reduced, sometimes sculptured looks are once again highlighted by shiny materials. A perfect climate for the comeback of brushed and patent leather.
Glitz and glamour, power and pomp – this counter movement to clean, tidy looks goes by the name of ‘Sparkling’. Glitzy, reflective materials highlight pumps and ankle boots to great effect. Providing the necessary findings to make that glamorous entrance are countless sequins, rhinestones and glitter. Men get a chance to shine too: lace-ups and boots with a shimmering silver or gold finish require fashion courage and a certain penchant for the extravagant.
Focus Gentlemen Extreme
Tradition with a twist. Elegant classics like brogues, Derbys, monks and Oxfords supplement the business look that allows retro influences and sartorial tailoring to shine through. Responding to the ever louder call for quality also in the shoe sector are first-class materials and perfect finish. Extraordinary colour combinations, unconventional styles and matt/gloss effects interpret British heritage with gusto.
Focus Smart Chelsea
London calling! In the 60s these ankle boots with their characteristic elastic siding enjoyed great popularity as ‘Beatle boots’. Now. Chelsea boots for men and women are seeing a great comeback. The comprehensive range spans welt-sewn classics and trendy boots with Lycra perforations, reptile embossing or contrast inserts through to elegant feminine styles with (block) heels. Chelsea boots are the must-haves of the season and the perfect complement for narrow-leg trousers.
Focus Contrast Heels
Refined and sexy. Feminine and a little frivolous. High-heeled pumps surprise us next Autumn/Winter with enchanting backs. The colours and materials on the back and heel strikingly contrast with the rest of the uppers. Glitz and glamour are a must – featuring in the form of metallic appliqués, patent and reptile leather as well as graphic designs.
Focus Rubber Soles
Burn rubber! From now on even classic shoes styles will also feature soft, supple rubber soles. Pale or natural-tone soles with a slight tread are very much in fashion. Shark and saw tooth as well as crepe variations make boots and ankle boots for men and women look a touch more casual. Fashionable rubber soles offer functional advantages in wet and slippery conditions and by the way – these are also non-slip guaranteed!
Focus Deep Reds
Barolo, Chianti, Montepulciano... Italian wine specialities are the inspiration that give boots, shoes and pumps irresistible appeal in wonderfully deep red tones. Variations of wine and berry red, ruby and magenta tones unfold their bouquet on soft suede, nappa and patent leather. Hand finishes give dream footwear its individual touch.
Focus Very Cognac
High proof spirits are very trendy in shoe fashions next Autumn/Winter. The season’s trend colour is cognac or brandy which will be spreading its ‘intoxicating’ effect on all shoe styles and material variations. This warm, slightly red-tinged brown tone looks particularly sophisticated on hand-brushed leather and suede. Two-tone effects and subtle sheen also highlight the sporty and elegant note.
