EXPANDING EXPORTS
EXPORTS OF UK GOODS were worth £1.5bn in 2011, a 19 per cent increase over 2010: •Oil and gas is an important sector, the state-owned Petronas accounts for around 20 per cent of the nation’s GDP. UK company Petrofac has attracted several million pounds worth of business in production work for Petronas and Shell is also a big producer in the country • Already a signifi cant centre for fi nancial and professional services, further market liberalisation will add to the profi le of Kuala Lumpur. Importantly, it is a leading Asian centre for Islamic fi nance, creating substantial opportunities for UK providers • Healthcare is another pillar of the economic transformation programme with the creation of new medical centres and state-run hospitals and upgrading of facilities • 2012 will see the opening of Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios in Johor, with a state-of-the-art facility comprising 100,000 sq. ft. of fi lm stages, 24,000 sq. ft. of TV studios as well as offi ces, workshops and post production facilities
