TANAMI SHAFT PROJECT,NORTHERN TERRITORY, AUSTRALIA


TWSP, WSP’s Australia-based mining and minerals business is providing engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services on the Tanami Shaft Project, part of the expansion programme of the Newmont Tanami Operations gold mine.


The mine is located in the Tanami Desert in Australia’s Northern Territory, 560km north- west of Alice Springs and 940km south-west of Darwin.The Tanami Shaft will allow vertical- shaft ore extraction at a much greater depth, 1,300m below the surface.


In addition,TWSP will be developing a hoisting system and headframe, integrated down-cast ventilation system, and a new underground crushing, materials handling and shaft ore loading system.The scope of this 34-month project also includes a materials handling and stockpiling facility at the surface, and all associated surface and underground services and infrastructure. As well as providing services from its offices in Perth, Western Australia, TWSP will also establish an EPCM office at the Newmont Tanami Operation itself to support the early works construction activities.
