Rob was fishing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel with Kayak Kevin Whitley when he wrangled up this striking 26-inch sheepshead.

BRANDON BARTON AND MARK GRIFFITH THREE MILE BRIDGE, PENSACOLA BAY, FLORIDA

Brandon and Mark caught the same hungry redfish two weeks apart. Crazy! Drop us a note if you’ve done the same thing.

DAVID WRIGHT PINE ISLAND, FLORIDA

Nothing was hitting until David pitched a live shrimp near the mangroves, where he hooked this surprise hammerhead shark.

THE SOUTH FORK OF THE SHENANDOAH RIVER, WEST VIRGINIA

BRENT SCHNUPP

This citation smallmouth, Brent’s first, couldn’t resist a Winco Chilly Willy. It was his fifth 19-incher of the year. Those river bass grow fat.

12 …KAYAK ANGLER EARLY SUMMER 2012

BRANDON DENNEY PENSACOLA, FLORIDA

“As I was looking around I see a monster ‘poon surface. I make a perfect cast on it and it inhales my bait

and takes off,” Brandon writes of the Kayak Wars record 85-inch tarpon that jumped eight times. Brandon runs the Emerald Bay Kayak Fishing Charter service.

APONTE SALINA,

JOSE PUERTO RICO

What a smile! Jose reeled in his 38-inch barracuda using 10-pound braided line, a nice trick. Kayaks have “become the way of fishing at the island, with over 1,000 kayak anglers from fresh to saltwater,” said the Kayakeros del Este Facebook group member.

BROOKE AND BRYNLI KNOTTS UNNAMED POND, SOUTH CAROLINA

Brooke and little Brynli were fishing with Kayak Angler contributor Brian Cope when they made the acquaintance of a four-pound largemouth. “Instead of fishing the Chigger Toad as a topwater lure, Brooke was letting it sink, which turned out just fine,” said Cope.
