ACA National Championships 10 COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES PARTICIPATED


T


he ACA Collegiate Race Series National Championships took place on March 31 and April 1. The weekend event


saw great on-water competition and fun as racers from all over the country traveled to the Tuckaseegee River in western North Carolina. The Collegiate Race Series National Championships had its largest crowd to date with 10 colleges and universities in attendance making up the 100+ competitors. Coaches, school faculty and spectators made the trek to North Carolina. The post-race event, hosted by the Nantahala Outdoor


Center, featured the Reel Paddling Film Festival shown on the banks of the Nantahala River while students enjoyed pizza and shared stories of the day’s paddling event. Costa Rica WHITEWATER KAYAK, CANOE OR RAFT Host Organization: Costa Rica Rios Dates: September 22–29, 2012 The famous Costa Rica Week of Rivers has teamed up with the ACA. Paddle a canoe, kayak or raft with Costa Rica’s premier outfitter.


Grande Ronde River, Oregon WILDERNESS CANOEING Host Organization: Slickrock Expeditions and Burt Kornegay Dates: First week of July, 2012 Canoe camp on this National Wild and Scenic River, a remarkable wilderness river experience.


San Juan Islands, Pacific Northwest COASTAL KAYAKING Host Organization: Outdoor Adventure Center Dates: August 20–26, 2012 A week of kayaking, marine biology exploration, beach combing and camping on pristine coastlines.


Charleston, SC SUP, CANOE AND KAYAK Host Organization: Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission Dates: late fall 2012 Based out of James Island County Park, experience the lowcountry via SUP, canoe and kayak, includes an overnight trip to Capers Island.
