St Andrews student life is a vibrant melting pot of:

120 + student societies – providing opportunities to organise charity events, to perform in the castle ruins as part of the drama society, develop oratorical skills in the historic debating society, join the student radio station or write a column in the University newspaper. There are also a range of societies related to nationality and culture.

50 + sports clubs – including fencing, kite surfing, ski & snow boarding, football, rugby, field hockey, climbing, sailing, Japanese martial arts and cricket.

Music – there are extensive opportunities to try, maintain and develop your musical ability. MUSSOC has over 800 members, there are various bands, choirs, cappella groups, a symphony orchestra and others who tour and compete on the international stage.

Faith – there is a meeting and worship place for various major faiths. For more information on different faiths in Scotland please visit our website: www.st-andrews.ac.uk/students/involve/faithandreligion

Ball culture – dress up in your finest attire whether it be sparkling dresses, tuxedos or the infamous kilt, then grace the dance floor with your partner at a luxurious venue swinging each other to fast-paced traditional Scottish ceilidh music!

University tradition – throughout the year you are actively encouraged to take part in the centuries- old University traditions, including: the renowned networking tradition of Academic Family, dressing up for Raisin Monday, and taking the plunge during the May Dip.

Socialising – St Andrews is a mediaeval town with a very modern cosmopolitan vibe pulsating throughout. Choose to hang out in one of the many coffee shops or restaurants before taking in some live music at one of the numerous trendy bars.

Accommodation – we have 10 attractive halls of residence which all vary in size, architecture, atmosphere and tradition!

You can choose between catered or non-catered, own restroom or shared and single or double occupancy.

We guarantee University managed accommodation to every entrant student provided they apply for their housing by May 31.

Year 3:

At St Andrews we offer a four-year Honours degree pathway as standard which is different from the English system. We have four faculties Arts, Divinity, Medicine and Science. Students choose the faculty in which they want to study based upon their qualifications and interests. Please note, in the Faculty of Arts the degree is called a Master of Arts (MA) which is equivalent to a Bachelor of Arts (BA).

Crucially students are admitted to a faculty and not to a specific degree programme. This provides breadth and flexibility as students can drop and pick up subjects over their first two years, allowing them to settle on their chosen degree path at the end of Year 2. Students in all faculties (except Medicine) will generally begin by taking three subjects in Year 1.
