WHILE big stars like Skrillex and Deadmau5 pack out stadiums filled with screaming fans, don’t forget the guys who helped create this thing we call EDM. Born in Detroit, Kevin Saunderson was one of the Belleville Three, alongside Derrick May and Juan Atkins, credited with creating techno. As Inner City he wrote ‘Big Fun’ and ‘Good Life’. As Reese and Tronik House he helped lay the blueprint for drum and bass. And yeah, let’s say it, with recent single ‘Future’ he proved he’s still got it.
He’s not resting on his laurels or past glories either. Top of his latest chart is a driving techno remix of his nephew Kweku Saunderson while his ears are also attuned to some of Europe’s finest labels, from Uner’s housey ‘Pallene’ on Luciano’s Cadenza label to the broken Berlin techno of A Made Up Sound and the old school sensibility of Kink (check YouTube to witness his live performance skills).
So if you don’t know, you better get to know!
