ISAAC BELL HOUSE EXTERIOR HUNTER HOUSE NORTHEAST PARLOR
What makes a work of art a masterpiece? What painting, chair, or interior is the finest in the world?
The 20th annual Newport Symposium celebrates two decades of looking at art, architecture, decorative arts, and landscape design and debating their significance. The lecturers will examine and challenge the status of iconic works of art and design through the ages, and lively discussions will illuminate the social and cultural history behind these opulent objects.
Presented by The Preservation Society of Newport County with Christie’s, US Trust, and National Trust Insurance Services, the Newport Symposium is an international forum for the study and discussion of a diverse range of arts and historical issues. This three-day Symposium has grown to be one of the year’s great educational opportunities available to collectors and admirers of the fine and decorative arts, architecture, and landscape design. Each year, the Symposium brings together 300 enthusiastic participants who hear from some of the greatest experts in the field while enjoying each other’s company in the beautiful setting of Newport’s architectural treasures.
