As you might expect, we share many of the same challenges as mobile carriers in other countries. Data consumption is eating away at limited spectrum resources everywhere and our skeptics are constantly telling us that the market is saturated, growth is on the decline and, at the end of the day, our industry will be left adapting to new technology as opposed to creating it.


My message is that our industry is in an enviable position. Our customers crave our products and services. In fact, those cravings will continue to get stronger as we build out faster, more advanced networks and introduce new ways to use mobile connectivity.


Spectrum is the lifeblood of mobile connectivity. It’s the linchpin in the virtuous cycle of innovation fueled by our industry. With spectrum in place, we build stronger networks and develop innovative products and applications, which ramps up consumer consumption. As the cycle goes full circle, we fi nd ourselves in search of more spectrum.


Beyond the constant call for spectrum, our top goal is to make our products and services effortless for customers. A good example of what I mean by that is video calling. As an industry, we need to make video calling as easy for customers as making a voice call or sending a text … across networks, from any device to any device all around the globe.


I think our industry’s future is limitless. If we continue to do all of the things I’ve outlined here, there’s no doubt in my mind that customers will continue to crave more from us.
