The Goat

What happens when you get Andrew Reynolds, Kevin “Spanky” Long, Atiba Jefferson, Beagle One-Ism, and Shane Heyl all together? Well, not only would you get a dope skate video and photos, but you’d also get some sick tunes. When they’re not skating, they are The Goat. CCS caught up with front man extraordinaire, Shane Heyl, to see what’s crackin’.

Where did the name “The Goat” come from? I used to party a lot, get into hi-jinx, scream all over the place. My friends would call me “goatmouf.” It kind of stuck, plus I think we can all relate to that, just drop the mouf and there you have it... THE GOAT.

We know that you guys are all friends and skate together, but how else did the band come together? Everyone else in the band dabbled in instruments in there spare time, but it wasn’t until I got sober and started writing a lot. Andrew and I started putting songs together jok- ing around on Garage Band slowly piecing things together with Beagle, Spanky, and Atiba. Next thing you know we had about 80 plus songs to pick from. We chose about 20 that

we thought could be good and really practice on. Good times, playing mu- sic and skating, goes hand in hand.

What Comes First: Music Or Skating?

skateboarding, but i need music to skate.

What are some of your influences, musical or otherwise? Skateboarding, first and foremost. Music from all genres. Plus anybody and everyone that pushes themselves to be better at what they do and have a good time doing it.

What comparisons, music wise, have people made that you are most psyched about?

LSDemons, Bad Sh*t, Fly Society, Odd Future, and Hollywood Kill. People that skate, that have tapped into another outlet to GET BUCK!

How was the first time you’ve played out versus now. Been blessed with the opportunity to travel more, and meet new people and do shows with other bands. Still a trip to do a show, LUH DAT SH*T!

If you could tour with any band who would it be and why? Thrasher, Skate Rock, let’s do it again, but this time with TK and Fly Society, and of course LSDemons and Bad Sh*t. Outside the box, prob- ably Beastie Boys in the late 80’s early 90’s, or Ween because to me

there music represents good times and something fresh. Hahaha! THE GOAT, BEASTIE BOYS, & WEEN let’s do this!!!

What’s your all time best venue to play? I would have to say The Glass House in Pomona when we opened up for Panda Bear. They had a little chill area in the back with some flat ground behind the stage that we could skate before playing. Games of S.K.A.T.E. were going down.

What is the future of the Goat and occasional others? Work on doing more shows, coming up with new songs, skating and hav- ing fun doing it.

Any last words? STAY IN THE MOMENT
