Kenneth Peters, Resource Advisor and Business Development Manager for Schlumberger Integrated Services for Exploration, uses geochemistry and numerical modeling to study petroleum systems. He has more than 30 years of experience working for Chevron, Exxon Mobil and the USGS and has also taught petroleum geochemistry and basin modeling at Chevron, Mobil, Exxon Mobil, Oil & Gas Consultants International, University of California, Berkeley and Stanford University. He is principal author of The Biomarker Guide (Cambridge University Press, 2005) and consulting professor at Stanford University, where he is the primary organizer of the Basin and Petroleum System Modeling Industrial Affiliates Program. He is Chair of the AAPG Research Committee, AAPG Distinguished Lecturer for 2009 and 2010, Associate Editor for AAPG Bulletin and Organic Geochemistry, and editor for the 2009 AAPG compact disk Getting Started in Basin and Petroleum System Modeling. He was the main organizer of the 2009 AAPG Hedberg Research Conference on Basin and Petroleum System Modeling. He is the 2009 recipient of the Schlumberger Henri Doll Prize for Innovation and the 2009 recipient of the Alfred E. Treibs Award presented to scientists whose contributions have had a major impact on organic geochemistry. Ken holds BS and MS degrees in geology from University of California, Santa Barbara and a PhD degree in geochemistry from University of California, Los Angeles.
Francisco Porturas is a Reservoir Engineer with Reslink AS, involved in completion simulations and near-well models that enhance production and high- light modern ICD reservoir management technology, operations and worldwide completions. He has more than 17 years of experience in the oil and gas industry working with major oilfield service companies and in academia as associate professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), in Trondheim, the University of Stavanger and the Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria (UNI) Heriot-Watt University, in Lima, Peru. Francisco obtained BSc and MSc degrees in geology and geophysics from NTNU and the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, in Lima.
Anne Gerd Raffn, a Product Analyst for Schlumberger Information Systems in Abingdon, England, is cur- rently working on advanced completion designs and optimization workflows in Petrel* and ECLIPSE* soft- ware. She holds a master’s degree in engineering from the Technical University of Denmark in Lyngby. She began her career in 1992 with Amoco in Stavanger. Anne has had broad experience, from field develop- ment engineer with Esso Norge and consultant and production engineer with Norsk Hydro to reservoir engineer with Technoguide AS in Norway. She joined Reslink as senior reservoir engineer in 2003 and has designed ResFlow* and ResInject* ICD reservoir appli- cations worldwide in Petrel and ECLIPSE software.
Kenneth Riedel is the Manager of Reservoir Engineering for Chevron Geothermal Indonesia Ltd. He has had 20 years of experience in the geothermal industry in the USA, Indonesia and the Philippines and five years in the oil and gas industry. He received BS and MS degrees in petroleum engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, in Golden. Ken is currently based in Jakarta, where Chevron operates the Darajat and Salak geothermal fields.
Oliver Schenk is a Geologist and Petroleum Systems Analyst with Schlumberger Integrated Services for Exploration (IES) in Aachen, Germany. He is currently project manager for the Alaska North Slope multi- client study, which constitutes the first major 3D petroleum system modeling effort based on a regional- scale geologic model. Oliver earned MS and PhD degrees in geology at Technical University of Aachen.
Mike Sheppard is Head of the Interpretation and Geomechanics Department at Schlumberger Cambridge Research (SCR) in England. He joined SCR as a research scientist in 1982 in the mathematical modeling group. Five years later he became senior research scientist and moved to the drilling and rock mechanics group. After that he transferred to Anadrill engineering as leader of the interpretation section. He returned to SCR in 1992 as department head. Mike holds BA and PhD degrees in physics from the University of Oxford, in England.
Torger Skillingstad is the marketing manager for Reslink AS in Stavanger. Before joining Reslink in 2002, Torger worked in various engineering positions in the Schlumberger Drilling and Measurements seg- ment, joining that group in 1995. Previously, he was a directional driller and MWD engineer. His bachelor’s and master’s degrees in petroleum engineering are from Rogaland University Centre, in Stavanger.
Sanjaya Sood is Vice President for Geothermal Energy Services for Schlumberger, based in Houston. He pro- vides leadership, overall strategy and execution for the geothermal business globally. Before assuming this post, Sanjaya served in diverse leadership roles includ- ing VP for Global Real Time and Schlumberger Information Solutions, VP and general manager for Schlumberger India and personnel manager for Oilfield Services in the Middle East. He began his career as an oilfield engineer and spent the early years in operations, technology development and manage- ment. He obtained a mechanical engineering degree (with distinction) from the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi.
Jack Stark has been Senior Vice President of Exploration with Continental Resources since 1998. He joined the company in 1992 as VP of exploration and served on the company’s Board of Directors through May 2008. Prior to joining Continental Resources, he was exploration manager for the Western Mid-Continent Region for Pacific Enterprises and held various staff and management positions with Cities Service Company and Texas Oil and Gas. He holds a master’s degree in geology from Colorado State University and is a member of the AAPG, Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association, Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists, Houston Geological Society and the Oklahoma City Geological Society.
Paul B. Vorkinn is a Marketing and Sales Consultant to Reslink AS in Norway. He worked for Schlumberger in various countries and capacities from 1983 until 1999, at which time he began work as a consultant to Hitec and Petroleum Geo-Services (PGS). From 2001 to 2003 he was employed by Reslink in Stavanger. Paul received an MSc degree in chemical engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, in Trondheim, Norway.
Paul Weimer holds the Bruce D. Benson Endowed Chair in the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he is also Director of the Energy and Minerals Applied Research Center (EMARC). His principal areas of research are in seismic and sequence stratigraphy and petroleum systems analysis of deepwater continental margins. His work has encompassed all depositional settings in 40 basins worldwide. Some of his new research focuses on interactive geologic displays for the public. Paul has a BA degree from Pomona College, in Claremont, California, an MS degree from the University of Colorado, and a PhD degree from The University of Texas at Austin, all in geology.
Keita Yoshioka is Lead Research Scientist at Chevron Energy Technology Company in Houston, where he conducts research in coupled subsurface physics simu- lation and transient pressure and temperature analy- sis. Before assuming this position in 2008, he worked at Chevron Geothermal Salak in Jakarta. Author of many papers and technical reports, Keita obtained a BS degree in resource and environmental engineering from Waseda University, in Tokyo, and a PhD degree in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University, in College Station.
Tom Zimmerman is Schlumberger Vice President, Technology, for the Middle East and Asia. He received a BS degree from Purdue University, in West Lafayette, Indiana, USA, and an MS degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland, USA, both in mechanical engineering. Since he joined Schlumberger in 1975, he has held diverse positions in engineering and management, including extensive work in perfo- rating and formation testing. As a Schlumberger Fellow, Tom is one of ten leading technical experts in the company who guide technical strategy. He serves on several industry and academic boards and chairs the Purdue Department of Engineering Education’s Industrial Advisory Council.
Julian Youxiang Zuo is a Principal Reservoir Engineer and Team Leader of Fluid Modeling at the Schlumberger DBR Technology Center in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. There he works on new workflow, fluid models and methodologies for DFA profiling of oil columns using light and heavy ends, and on testing these technologies in field studies. In addition, he has been developing DBR equation-of-state–based soft- ware products. Before he joined DBR in 1998, he worked as a chemical engineer at ARMINES, Ecole des Mines de Paris, in France; a research associate profes- sor at the Technical University of Denmark in Lyngby; a product development manager at the Beijing KW System Integrated Ltd; and a lecturer at the China University of Petroleum, in Beijing. Julian earned a BA degree from the Zhejiang University of Technology, in Hangzhou, China; an MS degree from the Shanghai Research Institute of Chemical Industry; and a PhD degree from the China University of Petroleum, all in chemical engineering.
