“They started digging out the dirt and started moving blocks and found him. My son said, ‘Give me
some water,’” Jean recalled. Oresto had a severe head wound, his right hand was badly injured, and he had a long gash on his torso.
Jean carried his son in his arms for 15 miles to find a doctor. As he walked, Jean prayed for his only surviving family member. “While I was carrying him, I was thinking about life and told God, ‘You gave me my son. Thank You. Now please heal him.’”
At Carrefour, a doctor treated the boy and rushed him to General Hospital, where Oresto’s right hand was amputated.
