COUNTRY FOCUS MARINE TRAFFIC
ROLLS-ROYCE, the global power systems company, opened a new marine service centre in Poland’s Port of Gdynia in June 2011. The facility will serve a variety of customers from the commercial and
offshore sectors, as well as the Polish Navy, and is located in one of Europe’s largest ship repair yard clusters. It will enable the repair and overhaul of the full range of Rolls-Royce thrusters, propellers, engines, and steering gear. Engineers from Gdynia will also service and repair vessels throughout the region. The centre will employ around 80 people and will lead marketing, sales and the supply of new marine equipment and spare parts for the Baltic region. Rolls-Royce has a network of more than 200 Polish suppliers and business there was worth £40m in 2010. Its engines power Polish military planes and helicopters and are used in the LOT and Wizz air fl eets. In addition, the company has installed 501 gas turbines in the Wladyslawowo, Tarnow and Ostrow power stations and its Bergen engine will provide power for the Port of Gdynia, going on stream during 2012.
