Matrix Microstructure
The primary α-Mg dendritic cells were quantified; Fig- ure 7 details the size distribution of cells taken from Lo- cations #1, 2, 4, and 6 in several different castings. As Figure 7 illustrates, the cell size is very fine and does
not significantly differ from the edge to the middle of the sample; in general, the average cell size in the edge region was 3.5 µm while that in the middle was 4.7 µm. Further, Figure 7 shows that there is no statistically sig- nificant difference in cell size based upon sample loca- tion within a casting.
