EINTRÄGE Nach der offiziellen Wettbewerbsausschreibung werden Weine von Erzeugern oder Händlern unter Angabe bestimmter Merkmale, wie Struktur, Preis und Verfügbarkeit im Handel, eingereicht.


Von jedem Wein müssen mindestens 200 Kisten (50 Kisten bei Süßweinen) im Handel verfügbar sein.


ORGANISATION WEINE ZUR VERKOSTUNG Die Weine werden zu jeweils 12 Weinen entsprechend ihrer Region, Farbe, Traubensorte, Stil, Jahrgang und Preiskategorie zusammengefasst, wodurch Chancengleichheit für ähnliche Weine gewährleistet ist. Die Preiskategorien sind wie folgt definiert:


A: bis £5,99 B: £6 bis £7,99


C: £8 bis £9,99 D: £10 bis £14,99


MEDAILLEN Die Juroren verkosten die Weine entsprechend ihres Stils und ihrer Preiskategorie. Sie testen zunächst jeder einzeln, vergleichen anschließend ihre Noten und einigen sich dann auf eine Endnote für jeden Wein. Die Weine werden wie folgt ausgezeichnet:


Unter 14,5 Punkten von 20 erreichbaren Punkten: keine Auszeichnung


14,5–15,4/20: Commended (Empfohlen) 15,5–16,9/20: Bronze (Bronzemedaille)


Die mit einer Silber- oder Goldmedaille ausgezeichneten Weine werden zur Überprüfung ihrer Auszeichnung ein weiteres Mal vom Regionalausschuss verkostet.


REGIONAL TROPHIES Sämtliche, mit einer Goldmedaille geehrten Weine werden erneut unter Berücksichtigung ihrer Traubensorte oder ihres Stils entsprechend der Preiskategorien “über £10” oder “unter £10” gegeneinander verkostet.

INTERNATIONAL TROPHIES Die mit “Regional Trophies” ausgezeichneten Weine ähnlichen Stils oder Traubensorte aus aller Welt werden dann erneut einer Verkostung unterzogen.


Anlässlich einer gesonderten Verkostung durch den Vorsitzenden Steven Spurrier und das höchste Gremium erhalten dann die besten Weine eine “International Trophy”, die höchste Auszeichnung der Decanter World Wine Awards.
