Communication is what it’s all about A

lmost everything we do in the overseas property industry is about fi nding new ways to fund, develop, market and sell homes abroad. And the only way to be successful is to be well connected and fully aware of all the different media channels out there that are going to help you fi nd your next development, client or fi nancier. You need to be exploring every possible option and communicating all the time. If you don’t, someone else will tell the world how good they are and beat you to the fi nishing line. So, to make life easier for you, OPP has decided to produce the market’s fi rst global media guide. We have tried to fi nd as many websites, magazines, online portals, exhibitions and newsletters as possible so that you can prepare for 2012 and decide where you are going to position your company and its brand to win new business next year. Obviously, the world is a big place and

we don’t claim that our 2012 Media Guide, which begins on page 35, is completely comprehensive. We will defi nitely have missed or overlooked some of the channels available out there. So, if you know about

a media opportunity that we should have included, please get in touch with us today and we will add it to the online version of the guide on our website www.opp.org.uk. We will go on growing this vital resource all year and we are more than happy to add in things that you would like see included. Please make sure you use the opportunites the guide describes. If you don’t tell people what you do and where to fi nd you, you will lose business. Communication is what it’s all about, after all.

Harlequin Hotels & Resorts Chairman

Dave Ames takes the same line. Dave agreed this month to answer questions raised by our readers about what is happening with his high-profi le developments in the Caribbean. You can read his responses on pages 58 to 60, where he is remarkably frank about some of the setbacks his company has faced in recent times, not least from the fi nance sector. Speaking of which, it is also worth taking a look at what fractional expert David Disick has to say (page 18) on the subject of approaching the fund managers out there. Once again, for both of these industry leaders, it is all about communicating properly.
