At the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), we are passionate about the management and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
We face serious challenges from energy security and rising oil prices to a sluggish economy. According to the International Energy Agency, carbon emissions in 2010 grew to the highest output in history;
the vast majority are the lasting by-product of the world’s most popular energy sources: oil and coal.
However, these constraints also bring opportunity. The most competitive companies of tomorrow will be those that revolutionize the way they operate to generate increased value using fewer resources, and I believe that information technology solutions will play a
vital role in this transition.
For this reason, we investigate technologies that can drive carbon reductions. Last year, we launched a report
into Telepresence (which can slash the costs and emissions associated with business travel. This year, with the support of AT&T, we investigated cloud computing and published a study showing how cloud computing can help firms in France and the UK simultaneously cut carbon emissions, save money on energy costs and improve the internal organization of their business. The paper follows up on a US-specific project
