In our latest US survey, we aimed to discover which companies and individuals our readers believe are ahead of the game in the US market.
W
e polled thousands of Intelligent Insurer readers to discover who they believe is leading the market in a variety of business areas. We focused on readers who are either physically
working in the US market or involved in US business, and ensured that those we surveyed worked in a variety of different areas including insurers, reinsurers and brokers.
Unsurprisingly given its size, the US market is incredibly diverse, with a mixture of domestic and international companies servicing its needs.
This was certainly reflected in the results of this year’s poll, with major European reinsurers taking the top prizes, as well as a European reinsurance CEO in the prime spot, in the reinsurance categories.
However, there was a good showing for domestic companies as well,
with Chubb taking three out of the four prizes in the insurance category. US companies also fared well in the service provider categories, taking awards ranging from banking services to rating agency.
Looking at the broking categories, US-based companies did well again,
with Marsh & McLennan Companies, and its reinsurance arm Guy Carpenter, dominating the awards. They took six of the eight on offer, with the other awards going to Aon and its subsidiary Aon Benfield, which are of course headquartered in the US.
Given the variety in this year’s winners, the 2011 US awards have—while
demonstrating the strength of US-based companies in their own domestic insurance reinsurance markets—confirmed the truly international nature of the US market as a whole.
