SINCE DJmag picked out Max Cooper as one to watch at the beginning of last year, we’ve been following his career closely as it’s continued on an upward trajectory. The classically- infused techno DJ/producer has just recently closed for Richie Hawtin at 10 Days Off in Belgium after playing loads of big festivals in the summer, and is poised to really hit the big-time in 2012 with the release of his long-awaited artist album. The album reportedly includes collabs with bands like Braids, and will aim to show how Max is as much a composer as a more
traditional techno producer. With over 50 productions out there – several of which have had videos made for them by professional fi lm- makers or fans, available to see at
www.maxcooper. net – the quiet electronic genius has been playing dual live/DJ sets recently to showcase the different sides to his art. As well as tracks on labels like Stephan Bodzin’s Herzblut and Marc Romboy’s Systematic labels, he’s recently been remixing minimalist classical composer Michael Nyman, which seems like a perfect fi t for his shimmering, emotive productions.
