Thailand Green Awards The Tourism Authority of Thailand announces the winners of the Thailand Green Awards at World Travel Market each year. The awards are supported by responsibletravel.com. Last year the Sarojin in Khao Lak won the Best Large Hotel category. The Sarojin has a community fund which enables it to contribute to local healthcare and educational schemes in Khao Lak and Phang Nga province.

The money has helped provide

prosthetic limbs, build new classrooms, boats and roads, provide street lighting and help pay for a vet, and bought school uniforms for 74 orphans. www.sarojin.com

Other winners included Aleenta Resort & Spa and operators Go Differently and All Points East.

TOP TIP Reassure your more conscientious clients

that Thailand is striving to offer responsible tourism. A great eco- experience can be staying with a host family and being part of a community.

“I’d say for ecotourism, somewhere like Koh Chang is very green or Koh Pha Ngan - it’s Thailand like it was years ago. The full moon parties are at Hat Rin on Koh Pha Ngan but I recommend the beach at Hat Salaad. You’ve got a really good national park on Koh Chang and a big mountain area. Chiang Mai and the Golden Triangle are also good areas for national parks.”
