Principal Mechanical and Energy Engineer £46,696 – £55,758 p.a.

The Professional Services Unit of the Directorate of Estates & Facilities (DOEF) contributes to the strategic management of the University buildings and provides a number of professional client-side functions including Mechanical Engineering and Energy/Utilities Management across the University Estate.


You will set, develop and monitor appropriate and acceptable standards of service in respect of mechanical engineering design and maintenance, and energy management issues across the estate. You will design, implement and maintain policies that ensure mechanical services including reactive, planned maintenance and replacement is carried out in a manner that meets legislative, statutory and safety requirements, best practice, and value for money. You will lead on the development of strategy for energy consumption reduction from mechanical engineering and associated services in the context of the University’s Carbon Management Plan and Environmental Sustainability Strategy.


You will develop outline design briefs to enable the commissioning of internal and external consultants and set and maintain strict mechanical and low energy design parameters for all development and conduct or commission an ongoing programme of mechanical and energy condition surveys to assist in the development of a long-term maintenance plan.


You will manage a team of Mechanical and Energy Engineers and other technical staff and manage and control a delegated budget.


You must hold an appropriate academic qualification to degree level or equivalent in a Mechanical and Energy engineering related discipline and hold Professional Chartered Membership of the CIBSE. You will have an established track record and experience in Mechanical and Energy engineering management across a wide portfolio of building types and possess experience of managing and controlling budgets.

Engineer £32,350 to £36,950 pa Bracknell, Berkshire


You will have responsibility for design, management and supervision of building services projects, reactive maintenance, planned maintenance and condition surveys. You’ll work well within a team, have project design and building maintenance experience, including strong technical and negotiation skills.


This varied role will enable you to be involved in the refurbishment and replacement of 3 Phase electrical systems, fire alarms and security systems as well as reactive and planned maintenance of the Council’s buildings, which include schools, libraries, leisure centres and office buildings.


You’ll have an HNC/HND or equivalent and a sound knowledge of health and safety legislation, especially the Construction Design and Management Regulations and Asbestos Regulations. Good use of Word, Excel and design software packages is also important.


A current driving licence and use of a car is essential.
