Architects predict falling

workloads The outlook for the building industry is looking a little bleaker, according to the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). The Future Trends Survey for

August 2011 stated that the number of architectural practices expecting work to decrease was 27%. This is compared to 25% of practices anticipating a reduction in workload in the previous survey in July. Firms expecting staff levels to drop

totalled 9% in August, compared with 12% in July, while 6% expected an increase in personnel, compared with 9% the previous month. Adrian Dobson, RIBA director of

practice, said: ‘Although the RIBA Future Trends Workload Index for August 2011 just remains in positive territory at +2, this represents a fall from +5 in July 2011 and indicates an overall drop in confi dence levels about future workloads for the UK.’

GRADUATE SUCCESS

Angela Malynn (front row, second from left) is this year’s CIBSE ASHRAE Graduate of the Year. Malynn, who works for Arup, wins a trip to Chicago, where she will take part in January’s ASHRAE Winter Meeting. Air Climate Solutions from Fläkt Woods Limited

Fläkt Woods launches the new and flexible iQ Star Wega Chilled Beam with VAV functionality

Flexibility, high quality indoor climate and energy optimisation are the key ingredients for Wega – the new member of Fläkt Woods’ iQ Star family.

The new Wega is available in several key variants. The standard model includes Energy Control (EC), which makes it possible to easily change the air volume and capacity without replacing the beam. The motorised version (MEC) is a chilled beam equipped for demand controlled ventilation (DCV) both in three step and multiple step variable air volume mode.

Indoor climate for the occupants is always optimised and the AHU fan power is always regulated to the lowest possible setting without compromising air quality. Wega can be specified with FPC (Flow Pattern control), heating and energy efficient control equipment.

With Wega’s express fitting brackets, fast and easy installation provides a time and cost effective solution.

Wega is also available in a low-build version for buildings with shallow slab to slab dimensions. The low-build Wega is only 152 mm high, ideal for refurbishments and maximizing room height.
