anobiotix announced that its lead compound NBTXR3 has received the formal authorization
from the French Medicine Agency (AFSSAPS) to start the first clinical trial.
NBTXR3 is a nanoparticle consisting of hafnium oxide crystals. Once injected into the tumor, NBTXR3 accumulates in the cancer cells. Due to the physical properties of hafnium oxide, the particles emit huge amounts of electrons upon radiation. This leads to the formation of radicals within the tumor cell, which in turn damage the cancer cells and cause their targeted destruction. NBTXR3 particles are inert and emit electrons only during their exposure to radiotherapy. As a result, the destructive power of standard radiation therapy could be locally and selectively enhanced within the tumor cells.
Preliminary data are expected by the end of 2012. http://www.nanobiotix.com

anoco Group plc (AIM: NANO) has signed a further agreement with Tokyo Electron, the
major Japanese equipment supplier, following the successful completion of the initial phase of develop- ment of a nanomaterial-based solar film. This further agreement represents the second phase of a joint development agreement (JDA) signed with Tokyo Electron in June 2010. The second phase is expected to take 12 months and will focus on further impro- ving the performance of the solar film. Under the terms of the agreement, Nanoco will receive miles- tone payments.
he 3rd generation of the optical 3D surface measuring system μsurf by NanoFocus [N2F.
FSE] has been accepted successfully by the global market. The German company NanoFocus presented μsurf in March 2011. In the first six months after market launch, NanoFocus could successfully gene- rate contracts worth over EUR1.3 million and thus is able to strengthen its innovative position in the automotive market further. The thereby enabled op- timization of the manufacturing processes and quality of the surface contribute significantly to reducing fuel consumption and hence for producing efficient and less polluting motors.
The managing director of NanoFocus affirms the forecast of EUR8.5 million in sales and a positive EBIT of between 3 to 5% for fiscal year 2011.
Furthermore, the new generation of the μsurf solar measurement system by NanoFocus AG has won the internationally coveted Intersolar Award in the cate- gory PV Production Technology. The business solu- tion for the solar industry was awarded for enabling optimal quality assurance in the production and research of solar cells.
The μsurf solar was honored for its speed, reliability and high precision, which allow for optimal quality assurance and process control in the production and research of solar cells. The versatility of this 3D non- contact surface measurement system, with regards to the requirements of the solar industry, was also a convincing factor for the panel of judges. Using their patented confocal technology, the flexibility of μsurf solar allows all measurement tasks on mono- and polycrystalline solar cells to be performed with nanometer accuracy – from the analysis of structured
