Welcome to the October issue of SNS. The magazine is now being published as a quarterly supplement, alongside our flagship title, Data Centre Solutions, but the weekly email newsletters and the storage websites (SNS Europe, SNS-UK and StorageWelt) continue to provide a dedicated focus on storage networking technology.

Hopefully, you’ll find the enclosed Data Centre Solutions magazine an interesting read, and agree with us that, alongside the SNS quarterly publication, and the electronic storage offerings, we continue to provide the best coverage of the data centre and storage markets in Europe, if not globally!

In this issue of the magazine, you’ll find a major Solid State Disk supplement, with an informative article from the SNIA Solid State Storage Initiative, plus valuable information from some of the SSD vendors, although it appears that plenty are still happy to keep their lights under bushels! Elsewhere in the magazine, there’s the usual invaluable SNIA content, and the regular ESG analyst column.

In the DCS magazine, it’s worth drawing your attention to the Powering The Cloud preview article. Our flagship event takes place in Frankfurt in early November, and it provides a great opportunity for all involved in storage, virtualisation, data centres and, of course, The Cloud, to find out what’s going on in the industry right now. Analysts, vendors and end users will all be giving their thoughts on where it’s all headed and, most importantly, how technology can help you keep on top of your IT pain points.

Traditionally, IT has always been a limiting factor on how a business operates, but we’re at a change point where, thanks to some smart technologies and some equally smart vendors, this need no longer be the case. Want to run a new app on some new servers with some new storage? The several weeks’ wait is down to as little as a few hours.

Now that’s exciting – and Powering The Cloud is the best place to understand how this can be achieved – today.
