INTERVIEW SIEMENS HEALTHCARE
toward increased facility capacity for minimally invasive treatment. These benefits all work together to produce faster, safer results for the patient. In traditional cardiac set-ups the patient would normally need pre-operative care in one room and then surgery in another room within the hospital.
Q. What does sustainable healthcare mean to Siemens? A. Well, it’s actually something that Siemens have been working on for a long time. Here in the Middle East, the population is growing and it needs to identify solutions to continually improve its healthcare infrastructure, and with that, sustainable healthcare. Green means not only green technology, which is of course very important in saving energy and being environmentally friendly, but it is also about maximizing efficiency and simultaneously delivering quality to the patient. We help improve the workflow in a hospital. The doctors tell us what they want and need and it’s our job to deliver solutions
that help improve the efficiency of their facility. The synergies achieved through all of these elements working together is a Green+
Hospital.
Q. Is it more expensive to build a green hospital? A. Not necessarily. It depends on what you call expensive. The initial infrastructure cost may be a bit higher, but you will reduce your running cost quite considerably in the longer term enabling a return on investment. A modern hospital will also stay modern for longer, keeping down costs in the long run. There’s a lot of interest in the region, so hopefully it won’t be long until we have a Green+ Hospital in the Middle East. HB
