January 31 - May 27: “Feel the Rhythm” exhibit. Explore the music, dance and costumes of inter- national cultures, including our own. Free with mu- seum admission.


Sundays: Critter Encounters. Visitors experience critter encounters with the museum’s own resident critter friends. Meet Lucy the Chilean Rose Haired Tarantula, Gracie the Gopher Snake, Fred and Ethel the Walking Sticks and Frank the Madagascar Hiss- ing Cockroach! Following your encounter will be a critter-inspired craft to make-n-take home. Please note, a different critter friend will be featured each week. Fridays: Hip Hop Hooray! Preschoolers explore movement as they hip hop, skip, move and put their body in motion! Each child will learn dance rhythms, distinctive movements and fun dance rou- tines to spark the child’s imagination and nurture individual creativity in a very expressive and unique way. Fridays, 11-11:30 a.m. *No class October 28, November 25 or December 2. Free with admission.


Wednesdays: Little Picassos. A “paint date” in the Family Art Center with lots of creative play for the right side of the brain. There are easels, washable paints, brushes and paint smocks ready for little artists to use. Wednesdays, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Free with paid admission.


Thursdays: Mommy, Music and Me! Join Ms. Stacy for a musical morning of singing, movement and plenty of mind and body exercises for your little ones. Space is

Select Saturday nights: Family Murder Mystery Din- ner Theater on a Train. A comical murder-mystery dinner set onboard a moving vintage train. Families (6+) can listen carefully to the costumed performers for clues, then help figure out whodunit. Departures at 6:30 p.m. Adults, $61; youth, 13 and under, $32, prices include tax. Reservations required.


Weekends: Weekend Scenic Excursions. Take a four hour, round-trip train ride through the citrus and avocado groves of the Heritage Valley on vintage coaches with an open-air observation car. Onboard lunch available for purchase. Schedule changes in 2012: Saturday trains, January through March. No Sunday scenic excursions until May. See pricing and dates on their website.


October 1-30: PumpkinLiners in Fillmore. Witches, ghouls and goblins come out to haunt at the Fill- more & Western Railway pumpkin patch. Families can go looking for their own “great pumpkin” on PumpkinLiner excursions. The train departs from Central Park in downtown Fillmore on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m. and 2:10 p.m. Activities include Jolly Jumps, corn maze, hayrides, arts and crafts booths, food vendors and more. Pumpkins are priced separately starting at $1 and vary by size. Trains stay at the pumpkin patch for 1½ hours before returning to Fillmore.


October 14, 21, 23, 28 and 30: Headless Horse- man Family Dinner Trains. Passengers depart from Fillmore to “Ichabog,” the private pumpkin haunt to feast on a BBQ dinner before going in search of the Headless Horseman in the dark of night.


November 26 - December 18: Christmas Tree Trains in Fillmore. The Saturday after Thanksgiv- ing marks the start of Christmas Tree Trains. There are two trains each Saturday and Sunday through December 18 departing the Fillmore station at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., en route to a private Christmas tree farm. Families can begin their own Christmas tradition by taking the train to find that perfect tree to cut down and haul back on the train. Crews net the tree and stack it on the flatcar for the ride back to Fillmore.


November 26 and December 3-26: North Pole Ex- press Train in Fillmore. The North Pole Express is an evening family train ride that will light up the eyes of children of all ages. Children are encouraged to wear their PJs and can bring their favorite teddy bear or blanket on the journey; elves lead songs and tell stories on the way to the North Pole as kids
