TERROR WATCH Terror Watch
A round-up of significant terrorist attacks around the world over the past two months. Attacks related to ongoing conflicts and insurgencies are not included unless they are notable or have led to a significant loss of life, as these are daily occurrences and too numerous to include in this briefing.
EUROPE
United Kingdom 22 August: A bomb was left at a bank in Newry, Northern Ireland, and made safe by army bomb disposal experts. Dissident Republicans have been blamed.
AFRICA
Somalia 1 September: Seven people were injured after a grenade attack on a tea shop in the southern town of Luq.
AMERICAS
United States 6 September: Three National Guardsmen were killed and several injured after a man walked into a pancake restaurant in Nevada and shot them with an AK-47 assault rifle.
Peru 14 September: Marxist Shining Path rebels attacked an army helicopter in southeastern Peru killing two army troops.
Kenya 10 September: A British man was shot dead and his wife kidnapped by suspected Somali pirates, on a secluded island near to the Somali border. It is believed al-Qaeda linked al-Shabaab are holding the woman hostage.
