Lightspeed Systems, together with a number of country-wide Internet Service Providers, has recently announced the launch of LATTICE, a new generation of fully-filtered internet connections for UK schools. This offering gives schools a filtered, uncontended line ranging from 10Mb up to 1Gb – at a cost unmatched in the UK. LATTICE, which is designed for both primary
and secondary schools, is an education-specific solution that provides a 21st century fibre connection with built-in best-of-breed web filtering. The filtering component of LATTICE is
delivered through the Lightspeed Systems Web Filter, a unique filtering solution based on an education-specific URL database with billions of entries categorised specifically for schools. The Web Filter gives school IT staff the ability to granularly customise filtering policies by school site, user, group, and more – ensuring that the appropriate level of internet access can be provided – as well as report on activity, from high-level overviews down to individualised usage details.
The Lightspeed Systems Web Filter also
has features designed to allow schools to safely access and utilise the educational content and tools available on the Web today. Included with the Lightspeed Systems Web Filter and the LATTICE solution is My Big Campus, an award-winning, safe platform for blended and social learning. My Big Campus includes a resource library to access and share content such as YouTube videos, websites and documents; as well as a collaboration site for blended learning and group communication through blogging, closed messaging, online assignments, discussions and more. Joel Heinrichs, CEO for Lightspeed Systems
Inc., said: “As the internet has evolved from static, one-way Web 1.0 content to dynamic two-way Web 2.0 content, school needs have changed as well. By including My Big Campus at no additional cost with our Web Filter via our LATTICE offering, we are able to deliver a safe, filtered environment that also gives our customers the educational benefits of collaborative learning and the best online resources and tools.”
The Lightspeed Web Filter is available for
desktop machines or mobile devices, enabling cross-platform, anytime/anywhere web filtering and learning. Through a browser application, the filter extends to iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch devices. LATTICE optionally includes Campus Mail, a fully hosted solution that promotes communication between students, teachers, staff and parents with safe, monitored email accounts and provides unlimited file storage in the cloud. LATTICE comes with a flexible agreement
that imposes no cancellation penalties on schools. Schools are no longer required to sign legal contracts that bind them for long periods to aging infrastructure. Tom Lee, Managing Director for Lightspeed
Systems Europe, said: “We want our schools to be fully satisfied with our software and service levels. If they’re not then they have the option to go elsewhere with absolutely no penalties attached; it’s that simple! Furthermore, the price of bandwidth has plummeted over the past five years and I see no reason to suspect this trend will change. So, every year we pass any price reduction we receive directly on to our schools.” Along with the devoted internet connection, web
filtering, and collaboration solutions, LATTICE also offers free 24/7 live-person support, 365 days a year. For more information on Lightspeed Systems
and their LATTICE offering, please contact Tom Lee on 01277 240648 or 07872 514781.
