EVENT PREVIEW I POWERING THE CLOUD

As ever the organisers have taken on board feedback from the delegates and sponsors alike and made adjustments and changes. For example in 2011 the first day of the conference will start a little later than in previous years to allow more time for those travelling in from further afield. Likewise the session times have reduced slightly and the gap between sessions has been modified to ensure that delegates have enough time to move between sessions. Other aspects that will be improved include the Training Labs (formerly the ‘Hands-on Labs’) – these labs give IT professionals attending the conferences the opportunity to “learn before you leap” into a variety of technologies presented in a hands-on classroom setting. Technology topics offered at the Training Labs program include Cloud Storage, Data Deduplication, RSIO- Data Center Block I/O over Ethernet, Storage Virtualization, and Unified Storage - Infrastructure.

In 2011 there will be an enhanced evening event that will take place on Wednesday, 2nd November from 17:30 – 20:00. Where you can expect many networking opportunities, entertainment plus of course, free refreshments. What better way for sponsors and delegates to celebrate the end of the first conference day?

Some new initiatives this year include the ‘One Minute Pitch’ run in association with ZDNet for delegates tired of garrulous speeches and on-going sales pitches. This will give a serious challenge for our sponsors to present their products, services or the organization itself in just 60 seconds. Conference delegates will decide who can get their messages across the most clearly and effectively in the time allowed and of course there will a prize for the best one minute pitch plus all votes from our delegates will be entered into a prize draw.

In terms of the conference content the organisers have been concentrating on bringing more vendor-independent content and are working with some leading industry names to deliver against that promise. New in 2011 is an association with the leading analyst house ‘The 451 Group’, an independent technology- industry analyst company focused on the business of enterprise IT innovation. The group’s analysts provide critical and timely insight into the market and competitive dynamics of innovation in emerging technology segments and will be presenting key papers within the conference programs. As part of the program with ‘The 451 Group’ the organisers want to hear about your real issues and priorities and will be conducting an online survey among registered delegates. This will help conference presenters to deliver presentations with focus on the real issue and priorities that you want answers on. Research Director Simon Robinson stated, “The emergence of virtualization and cloud-based IT-as-a-Service models offer many tremendous benefits; CIOs and IT managers know this, but what they need is help to get there. In particular, our research shows that modernizing the storage infrastructure is an essential part of this journey. We are delighted to be part of the SNW Europe program this year, and look forward to sharing our perspectives on how IT and storage stakeholders can embrace this next- generation model with confidence.”

After their first appearance at SNW Europe in 2010 we will have an increased involvement with Demartek, an independent testing house who focus on real-world, hands-on industry analysis and lab validation testing of server, network, storage and security technologies, for the small and medium business (SMB) environment and the large enterprise. They also will carry out a research study relating to the ‘Powering the Cloud’ events so watch out for that in the next upcoming months. And for the third year, the BITKOM Anwenderforum will form part of the main agenda this year examining ‘IT Appliances’. Other organizations participating in the wide and varied agenda will be The Data Centre Alliance and The Green Grid, the Evaluator Group and more. The main tracks of the conference programs will cover these key areas of interest: £ Keynote Theatre £ Storage Technologies £ Cloud Storage £ Cloud Computing £ Virtualization £ Datacenter Technologies £ Converged Networks £ Customer Case Studies
