• We bid last year to run the southern haemophilia treatment hub, a networked service providing specialist care throughout Hampshire, Wiltshire and East Dorset. The NHS designation process for haemophilia services has been delayed, but we have continued to pursue the network approach and we secured additional funding to run the network for Portsmouth, Wiltshire and East Dorset.

• We have started discussions with Winchester and Eastleigh Healthcare NHS Trust over a partnership in pathology. This will advance our aim to develop a networked local pathology service with enhanced standards and lower costs.

Saving money and improving patient care: The Prudence Project

The Prudence Project aims to improve efficiency and make financial savings within the Foundation Trust without compromising our high standards of patient care. Staff are encouraged to pitch their ideas on cost savings, large or small, to the Prudence Panel throughout the year. We have found that the little changes can make a big difference.

The Foundation Trust made savings of more than £10 million during the year 2010/2011. Many of last year’s initiatives are still ongoing and still making savings so this year we are aiming to reduce costs by £5.8 million.

We value all ideas to save costs and improve services, whether from staff or patients or carers and visitors. Please send them by email to prudence@bnhft.nhs.uk or telephone 01256 313790.
