data intensive PRODUCTS Products SigmaPlot 12
The latest version of Systat Software’s scientifi c data analysis and graphing software package has been released. SigmaPlot 12 provides researchers with an enriched user interface, increased ease of use and new features to analyse data and create exact, publication-quality graphs that deliver research results for presentation, publication or the web. Designed specifi cally for professional researchers, this updated version contains workfl ow effi ciency improvements, new enhancements to SigmaPlot’s curve fi tting features and a wider range of graphing options, including radar and dot density graphs. Users can also access 100 of the most frequently used statistical procedures for analysing scientifi c research directly from the SigmaPlot statistics menu with step-by-step guided statistical analysis. Additionally, the Enzyme Kinetics module is now integrated into SigmaPlot providing further enzyme kinetics analysis features and graph types such as Michaelis-Menten, Lineweaver- Burk, Eadie-Hofstee, Scatchard, Hanes-Woolf, Hill and Dixon. A normal distribution comparison feature is available for quality control analyses, and the curve fi tter can now use generalised weighting and analyse implicitly defi ned equations.

Maple T.A. MAA placement test suite
Maplesoft has released the latest version of its Maple T.A. (teaching and assessment) MAA placement test suite. The placement test suite is a collection of placement tests that are developed by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) and offered online exclusively through the Maple T.A. testing environment.
The latest release of the
Maple T.A. MAA placement test suite incorporates the results of modern research into calculus assessment. A new calculus-concepts- readiness test determines whether a student has a good understanding of the mathematical concepts needed to succeed in a calculus course. Pilot testing has shown the test has high predictive validity of success
Simca-Batch On-Line v3
Umetrics has released version 3.4 of Simca-Batch On-Line (SBOL). SBOL is off-the-shelf, Windows- based software, providing multivariate statistical process control and batch statistical process control (BSPC) for batch processes. SBOL 3.4 supports alarms based on results,
including visualisation and export of triggered alarms. New in this version is notes for annotations enabling functionality for process diary. SBOL 3.4 has support for projects created in Simca-P+ 12 and is available both as 32-bit and 64-bit.
SBOL 3.4 has a robust
client-server architecture with a dedicated server that performs all calculations in real-time and then sends the results to the client to visualise the results. Results can also be sent back to the historian for further communication to Scada or DCS systems.

Spotfire 3.1
Tibco Software has launched its Spotfi re 3.1, the latest version of its in-memory analytics platform making predictive analytics accessible within Spotfi re’s visual user experience. Spotfi re allows everyone in the enterprise – whether in business, technical, or scientifi c roles – to analyse complex data easily, customise the discovery experience, and share the results through mashups, portals, or interactive dashboards. With this release, Tibco makes predictive analytics a mainstream feature of any
business application, allowing any enterprise decision- maker to perform ‘what-if’ scenarios on demand and fi nd new insights in complex data instantly. Spotfi re 3.1 includes conditional colouring and lasso and axis marking that allow for better data analysis of patterns, clusters and correlations among sets of variables. Its multiple scale bar charts and combination bar and line plots also allow for enhanced analysis of unstructured, ‘free- dimensional’ data to identify key outliers and trends among the data.
Spotfi re 3.1 enables organisations to integrate S+ or R statistical scripts and models easily into an intuitive and fully interactive interface. This is accomplished through the Spotfi re Statistics Services layer, which allows for the central deployment and execution of both S+ and R-based models, which can then be accessed and run from a Spotfi re client. End users without statistical expertise can now make use of the power of predictive models to add confi dence to their decisions. http://spotfi

Genedata Analyst Genedata has released Genedata Analyst, an integrated statistical and data analysis platform with advanced visualisation capabilities. The software is built on a client-server architecture and can handle huge and complex data sets of billion-plus data points, while supporting small research groups or hundreds of users. Simultaneously managing data from different sources, it gives researchers and biostatisticians a secure and scalable data- mining platform, which can be integrated tightly with existing research IT ecosystems.
Genedata Analyst gives a broad range of scientists the capabilities for sophisticated data analysis. Combining the management of diverse data sources and types with data mining tools and knowledge management systems, the platform provides a comprehensive set of statistical approaches and interfaces to third-party algorithms. Features include context- sensitive help, guided workfl ows and carefully chosen default settings to provide enhanced usability, enabling non-expert users to access, use and benefi t from statistical tools. The platform is scalable and can process large and complex datasets of many measurements, design factors and covariates. More than a billion data points are supported with no limit on the number of observables, experiments or covariates. Standard tools include histograms, bar charts and box plots.
