SENIOR MOVES AT BUPA Ray King (pictured top), Bupa’s chief executive is to retire in 2012. King, 58, has been chief executive since May 2008 and before that was group finance director for seven years. Separately, Bupa group


finance director Tom Singer (pictured bottom) is to leave the health and care company to join InterContinental Hotels Group as chief financial officer in September of this year. Singer joined Bupa as group finance director in 2008, succeeding King himself. Prior to joining Bupa, Singer held positions at William Hill, Moss Bros, McKinsey & Company and PwC. Neil Taylor, Bupa Care Services’ finance and development director, will serve as acting group finance director until a permanent successor. King’s successor as chief executive has not yet been announced.


AMII EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE The Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries (AMII) has appointed executive committee


member Lindsey Joseph (pictured) of LEBC Corporate Healthcare Solutions as secretary / membership secretary, taking over from Paula Aitken of The Private Health Partnership, who has stepped down from the executive commitee after two years. Debbie Kleiner-Gaines of Best Health UK continues as treasurer while Graeme Godfrey of Best Go Private and Brian Walters of Regency Health also join as executive committee members.


SIMPLYHEALTH UNDERWRITING AND PRICING DIRECTOR Simplyhealth, the private medical insurance and cash plan provider, has appointed David


Cobley as underwriting and pricing director. Cobley is a qualified actuary


and joins from the Lloyds Banking Group, where he was risk director for its International Financial Services division.


DENPLAN CORPORATE CHANNEL MANAGER


Denplan, the dental benefits and payment plan provider, has appointed Colin Perry as corporate


channel manager. Perry, who succeeds Matt Reeves, has worked for Denplan for the last four years as a new product development manager and has experience in both financial services and product management.


AVIVA HEAD OF CLINICAL SERVICES Alastair Wighton is to join the executive team of Aviva UK Health as the new head of clinical services, a move from his current position as general manager of the occupational health arm. Wighton joined Aviva in 2006. Previously he worked with Ernst & Young in the UK and Australia.


CONSILIUM INDIVIDUAL PMI DIVISION Consilium Employee Benefits, the specialist healthcare broker based in Bromley in Kent, has appointed


Rebecca Tucknott to head up its new individual consumer PMI operation. Tucknott joined Consilium in 2009 and prior to this she worked for a number of years in corporate finance for Northern Rock.


PRUHEALTH HEAD OF DSF SALES PruHealth has appointed Karl Hewstone as head of sales for its direct sales force channel. Hewstone was previously head of key intermediary sales at PruHealth. Liam Kennedy, head of key accounts, will assume responsibility for new business and client retention for PruHealth’s key intermediary channel.


ZURICH UK LIFE CEO TO RETIRE Michael Brennan, CEO, Zurich UK Life is retiring from the business and will be leaving Zurich on 31 August 2011. Brennan will retire after serving 34 years with Zurich, having served the majority of his career with Zurich Life Ireland as CEO of the Irish Life business prior to becoming CEO of the UK Life business in 2009. Should a successor not be in post by 1 September 2011, David Sims, CEO Global Life Europe would become interim CEO, UK Life subject to regulatory approval, while at the same time continuing in his current role until a permanent successor is appointed.


BIBA’S STADDON TO LEAVE British Insurance Broker Association head of technical services Peter Staddon is to leave the


Association. Staddon has been with BIBA for almost 15 years and on the association’s Executive for 10 years. During that time he headed various technical committees, dealt with a variety of members’ enquiries and most recently worked with members to engage with the Export Credits Guarantee Department.

BHSF BROKER MANAGER FOR NORTH BHSF, the cash plans and employee benefits provider, has appointed Paul Nugent as


broker manager for the North


region. Nugent Joined BHSF in December 2009 as an employee benefits consultant providing products and services to clients in Hull, Humberside and East Riding of Yorkshire. In his earlier career, spanning over 30 years, he worked in financial services with Prudential, United Friendly Assurance Group and AIG.


LORICA APPOINTMENTS Lorica Employee Benefits, the national consulting and advisory firm, has reshaped its business divisions, “selectively increased” staff numbers and promoted five


key individuals into new roles. The internal restructure under chief executive David Battle sees Nick Bushell (pictured top), sales director for health, risk and wellbeing, assume greater responsibility by taking on the management and direction of the Lorica Online flexible benefits team. Matt Duffy is promoted to head of online benefits and takes on responsibility for all flexible benefit sales. Louise Flowers takes on the new role of head of risk and wellbeing, reporting to Bushell. Chris Downing is promoted to the role of head of client delivery, also reporting to Bushell. Tobin Murphy- Coles (pictured bottom), assumes the role of commercial director.
