DE DANS (ORIGINAL VERSION) COSMIN TRG 50 WEAPONS
HAVING weathered the days of minimal techno (bleep, bloop, high hat, cheer), ‘proper’ techno is making its voice heard again with highlights so far including Italian legend Lory D dropping the first of a trilogy of EPs on Numbers, Boddika’s industrial-strength beats and the brilliant new album forthcoming from Ben Sims. Then there’s Cosmin TRG, the Romanian dubstep producer who mended his broken beats, moved to Berlin and holed up in Modeselektor’s studios to record his debut album ‘Simulat’ (out 26th August on
50 Weapons) which combines Berghain’s dub techno sensibilities with a range of moods, from full on dancefloor assault to warm analogue atmospherics – listen out for DJmag favourites such as ‘Less Of Me More Of You’ and ‘Form Over Function’. It’s a similar story with his own chart which contains everything from original king of jack Robert Armani to the clanking, cavernous echoes of Sascha Rydell providing a handy historical link between techno ‘90s hey-day and its current rude state of health.
