Visiting an apple orchard this fall? • Look for apples that are well-shaped, have minimal blemishes, and are ripe, which is usually determined by the apple’s ground color (the color of the apple that faces the tree’s interior).
• Apples are ready to be picked when they can be picked with the stem still in place. The stem should stay with the apple.
• Carefully place the apple in a basket or bucket so it doesn’t get bruised.
