EDITOR’S LETTER
Dear Rowan Knitters I am proud to welcome you to the 50th issue of the Rowan magazine. I wonder how many of you have magazines 1 to 50 and now have a full book case.
What a journey we have been on from the beaches of Brighton in the 1st issue
...to South Africa and Sicily there are now few places left where the Rowan team have not explored to find the magical backdrop for the Rowan designs. Its been quite a journey. I would hope you would agree that throughout the years Rowan has kept true to its ethos by offering a magazine that is not just a knitting magazine but a creative escape from the every day ups and downs that life throws our way. We have also kept an evolutionary yet consistent team of designers who continue to invent new and exciting fabrics and shapes for us to explore.
For the first time, to mark the 50th edition of the Rowan Magazine, we have produced this interactive digital version. Wherever you see the
symbol, click on
the logo to view video footage of the behind the scenes from photography shoots, interviews with the designers, some of the Shetland knitters, and a video of me reading this letter.
We are really excited to bring you this new feature and hope to make it a regular part of the magazine. We are also re-launching our Rowan International club. It will be divided to make a Rowan Subscription and on-line club Row@n with lots of added benefits that will be absolutely free.
Inside this digital edition of Magazine 50 we have videos from your favourite designers describing what Rowan means to them. Additional features exclusive to the digital edition are; the making of Magazine 50 with some pictures and videos from the printers, Video footage following two Shetland Lace knitters, and finally a written article by Dr Margy Cockburn giving an insight into the Wool Week 2010 campaign.
As always, the 50th issue of the magazine has 3 stories, which are all completely different. I love each of them for different reasons.
Wildwood for the colour, pattern and fantastic backdrop of the perfect Autumn day with the incandescent sunshine streaming through the trees. Finesse for its elegance, grace and playfulness. Lastly Winter Essentials for its timeless simplicity.
I hope you find this digital edition as exciting as it was putting it together, and thank you for celebrating our 50th Magazine with us here at Rowan
Here’s to another 50 issues of the Rowan magazine.
