THE NATIONAL ARBORETUM Wildwood location
The National Arboretum at Westonbirt, Gloucestershire was the spectacular location for our wonderful Wildwood story. We photographed the collection at the end of October 2010 and the colours of the trees, especially the maples made it a very special and magical experience.
For most visitors Westonbirt Arboretum is synonymous with the spectacular autumn colour of the maples, however the collection has many other species that give Westonbirt all year round appeal.
Winter at Westonbirt is an amazing experience, particularly when seen on a frosty day when the deep peaceful greens of the conifers and richly coloured barks take centre stage. In Spring the arboretum comes alive with magnificent displays of rhododendrons, azaleas, magnolias and wildflowers. The Summer heralds the flowering of many grassland flowers, while the trees provide cool leafy glades to wander and relax. Autumn starts with a bang with one of the best natural firework displays in Britain as the maples in particular are ablaze in reds, oranges and yellows.
