About the cover

Joined by three legislative colleagues, State Sen. Jane Nelson (R-Flower Mound) spearheaded efforts in the legislature to pass Texas Medical Board reforms backed by TMA. Their efforts kept the board strong but fair to physicians while protecting patients and the medical liability reforms TMA won in 2003.

18 TMB reform

Despite opposition from special interests, TMA won passage of Texas Medical Board reforms that end anonymous complaints, give physicians more time to answer complaint letters, and grant the board flexibility to deal with minor violations. The outcome is comparable to TMA’s vic- tories in the liability reform and prompt pay battles.
