Travel Adventures Await Te Dents

Tammy and Howard Dent are looking forward to their first of many travel adventures as new members of Vacation Station.

T

he Dents live in the small town of Guyton, Georgia, just 20 miles north of Savannah. Howard, a tugboat captain,

spends his work days on the Savannah River. Tammy, an employee of Colonial Oil at the Georgia Kaolin Terminals, isn’t far from the water, either. “My desk is about 50 feet from the

river, so I never miss the parade of con- tainer vessels,” she said. Te Dents work where tourists play, but when they do have leisure time, on Sundays, for example, they ride their Harley Davidsons to downtown Sa- vannah for dinner at one of the many restaurants on River Street. “Tere’s always something happen- ing on the riverfront, be it St. Patrick’s Day festivities or Oktoberfest,” Tammy said. “Spanky’s, a landmark known by its yellow and white striped awning, serves casual food in a relaxed atmosphere. Te Wild Wing Café is another place we like because it is in the City Market, where there is almost always live music and interesting shops to browse. Moon River Café offers not only great eating but a peek into the paranormal. It is in a centuries-old building on Bay Street and was featured on “Ghost Adventures.” She added that Savannah is known for its historic and ghost tours, pub crawls and trolley excursions, including a tour based on the movie “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.” And, she said, the home of Juliette Gordon

Low, founder of the Girl Scouts, is also a popular spot for visitors to Savannah. Te Dents don’t spend all their leisure time in historic Savannah, however. “We will sometimes ride out to Tybee

Island, and that gives us a chance to walk on the beach,” Tammy pointed out. “We love the Crab Shack for seafood and a bit of gator watching, and fishing is good throughout the area. Between his job and our own boat, my husband is always in the know as far as fishing holes go.” As much as they love Savannah, the

Dents are looking forward to using their Vacation Station membership to see other parts of the world. How did they find out about the vacation club? “Tey sent us a mailer. After attending

their presentation, it seemed almost too good to be true,” Tammy said. “With my husband’s schedule, our

travels for 2011 were already on the books, but we look forward to our first Vacation Station adven- ture,” she com- mented. “We plan to use the program for yearly trips but are really look- ing forward to retirement so we can enjoy
