2011 Youth


proudly taken a total of 2,520 (includes 2011 winners) Oklahoma youth on this annual, weeklong, all-expenses-paid trip. Youth Tour is one of many programs that Oklahoma’s electric cooperatives invest in every year to help our state’s rural communities. Participants, who are students in between their junior and senior years of high school, are selected through an application and interview process during which judges look for excellent academic achievement and community leadership. The trip is intended to educate students about the role of electric co-ops in the national economy, to foster their appreciation for a democratic government, expose them to the sights and sounds of our nation’s heritage, and build their leadership skills so they may make a difference in their communities.

ixty-eight students have been selected to represent Oklahoma’s electric cooperatives in this year’s Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. They will join more than 1,500 other students from co-ops across the nation to tour national landmarks, meet with their congressional representatives, and learn what it means to be a good citizen.
