APP REVIEW

IPHONE/IPAD £1.79
LIVE DRUMS, in your pocket. Now there’s a prospect. Coming from Frontier Design, pioneers of high end production hardware, the experts there have recently turned their hand to music creation apps. Beginning with ideas ranging from a rainstick, an electric guitar and even a theramin, the latest in the line of iOS releases focuses on live drums. The layout of the playing interface is great for the occasional ‘finger drummer’ and with import-from-ipod-library you can play along to your favourite tunes any time you like. Not much of a production tool, though, right? Wrong. The app is also a multitrack drum sequencer, meaning you can program any number of intricate patterns and loops using the live drum samples within the library. The edit screen is intuitive, and
will rightly serve those among us looking to create and inject a live element to our electronic productions. Beatstudio is one of a growing list of iOS apps to use AudioCopy – a new standard in file transfer between apps on Apple devices. This means you can export your composed drum pattern to any of over 40 other music creation apps such as BassLine, Jasuto, Dopplerpad, even Fourtrack.
