COCKTAIL PARTY 2010

I was fortunate enough to accompany the Club’s charming and debonair Vice President, Geoffrey Godbold, to The Ham Annual Cocktail Party.

When we arrived at the equally charming Bingham Hotel in Richmond, we were escorted downstairs to the garden balcony and greeted with a glass of champagne and superb canapés.

Beside the banks of the River Thames the two elegant Georgian town houses transport you out of the city. This is, in my opinion (and I am certain others would agree) an enchanting venue for a Spring get together.

This being my fi rst soireé with Ham, I was welcomed by many friendly faces, old and young, both long-standing members and new arrivals who had just moved to the country and decided to take up the addictive sport, which we all know and love.

I dabbled in polo many years ago at university, but now gripped by racing, an abysmal bank balance, little or no hand eye co-ordination, and several riding-induced injuries later, I am now best-placed to observe from the relative safety of the sidelines with a cool beverage.

The evening was perfectly fi nished off by an exquisite dinner in the hotel restaurant with several of the committee and other members.

A wonderful evening from start to end and I look forward to joining you once again.
