N-TRACK STUDIO originally launched as a desktop app for PC/ Mac and its entry into the mobile device market brings some great features that appear to be unique to the mobile app world. An audio recording app, unlike others that exist on iOS it has multitrack (no limit to number of tracks) and edit functionality. The standard interface is what you might expect from any DAW app worth its salt – a master screen displays the main arrange window and once audio is recorded there are simple EQ, mix and pan features. New tracks are created automatically when you tap record which is an intuitive touch. Ok, so you’ll never achieve pro quality recordings using the external mic on your iPhone/iPad but that’s not what this app has been built for – it’s dedicated to the live sketching of ideas and at that it is very


good. iOS compatible mics are beginning to appear, so better quality field recording is certainly on the way. N-Track Studio’s main competition is Sonoma’s Four Track. The latter may win for design, but N-Track’s app is a much more capable recording tool.
