GUIDEOUT STRIPS
Guideout Strips were developed upon the request of an
engineering team at
Connah’s Quay Power Station, North Wales, to assist with a Health & Safety project with the aim of upgrading their existing egress/exit routes for extreme circumstances. This was due to the fact that there had been an emergency situation 3 years earlier at another power station where a steam leak occurred, giving impaired vision, and leaving an Engineer with 75% burns to his body. Several hundred metres of Guideout Strips have been successfully installed at Connah’s Quay Power Station and further enquiries have been made from other Safety Management teams within the
organisation.
Guideout Strips are designed to assist personnel, by touch, as a guide to the nearest egress/exit route in the event of an emergency situation e.g. impaired vision due to power failure, smoke or steam. They are also designed to assist partially sighted or blind people.
Chemical plants, power stations, processing plants, high rise accommodation, shopping centres, enclosed car parks, cinemas, cruise ships, naval vessels, underground bunkers, schools and colleges, underground train stations, sports stadiums, hospitals and many more.

Past emergency situations e.g. Kings Cross underground fi re in November 1987, which killed 31 people, is a typical example of people being trapped without any form of guidance to the nearest escape route. Had Guideout Strips been in place in this instance, they could have potentially saved lives.
Guideout Strips can be fi tted to any existing handrail profi le by the use of screws, rivets or glue.
The list below is just a few examples of the areas that would potentially benefi t from the installation of Guideout Strips:
