resistance and is converted into an electrical analogue signal. The microprocessor and the display make process adjustment much easier. The user can set the values for the switch points, hysteresis and measuring range by means of programming buttons even without the system temperature being applied. This enables installation and setup of the system within a few minutes.

Film technology is used for the electronic circuitry.

A flexible, temperature-resistant and extremely resistant polyimide film is used as carrier of the SMD components. Together with a special potting method an extreme shock and vibration resistance is achieved. TC, a leading manufacturer and supplier of temperature

sensors and related instrumentation and accessories, offers an extensive range of temperature measuring products including mineral insulated thermocouples (from 0.25mm diameter),

general thermocouples, resistance thermometers (RTD, Pt100), thermocouple connectors, thermocouple cables (single and multipair), temperature controllers, dataloggers, and hand-held instrumentation. Thermocouples and Pt100 sensors can be custom designed

and manufactured to exact requirements within a few days. Alternatively, the company also has a massive range of temperature sensors in stock ready for despatch. The company’s practical international reference work

Thermocouple and Resistance Thermometry is available now and is completely free. It includes: an illustrated 37 000 word explanation on the theory of temperature measurement; extensive application data; a full list of hardware to suit all applications; international reference tables and tolerances; international colour codes; international standards; and comprehensive illustrations. ■

Flat panel PCs for SCADA systems P

roducts 4 Automation (P4A) has concluded an agreement with Panasonic, under which P4A will

distribute the Panasonic GN series of flat panel PCs running P4A’s Movicon CE software, claimed to be the most powerful HMI platform currently available for Windows CE. The combined package is compact, and capable of satisfying every user need, in terms of visualisation and control, without any compromises as regards full blown SCADA systems.

The hardware part of the package, the Panasonic GN series, are elegant black frame units equipped with 7-in to 15-in TFT screens that offer brilliant, vivid and life-like displays in 262

144 colours, with resolution of up to 1024x768 pixels and a brightness of 400cd/m2

(max) .

Offering the key user benefit of IP65 ingress protection from the front, each GN series PC has an analogue resistance screen that responds flawlessly to the touch.

Optimising the Panasonic hardware, the Movicon CE software is a runtime engine for Windows CE that offers HMI solutions. Employing just one development platform, Movicon XML projects can be run on Win32, Win64 or WinCE – irrespective. P4A says that Movicon CE provides almost all of the graphics functionality of full Movicon 11 SCADA, but with a noticeable increase in data visualisation capability, which is considerably

superior to any other human machine interface software.

Not only does Movicon CE have unmatched graphics, all the system’s capabilities allow the user to go beyond simple HMIs, with features such as powerful Alarm Management, Historical log management with relational DB integration, Trends, Data Analysis, Schedulers, IP Camera, Recipes in DB, VBA Scripts, dispatching E-mails and SMS, Web Client.

All of these features are ready-to-use in one powerful and simple programming environment that only Movicon can truly provide. ■
