Servers as a Service from £238 per server Affordable access to scalable processing and business agility.

What is the solution? Servers as a Service delivers your infrastructure through the use of shared Data Centre utilities. Blade and virtual networking technologies offer a choice of physical or virtualised servers, appropriate to the specific environment.

Servers are hosted in a modern, secure, ISO 27001 managed Tier 3+ facility. A pervasive management and monitoring infrastructure, with a dedicated support team ensures a high level of business availability. We also offer high-end, dedicated database and application blades for processor intensive requirements. All blades within the environment benefit from the virtualised networking infrastructure.

Why would I want this service? Choosing to run your applications based on Servers as a Service means you benefit from zero capital investment now or at any time in the future whilst being able to use the latest technologies. Your “in house” IT resources are freed from utility management functions to tackle more business critical, delivery tasks.

Isn’t this a “one size fits all” approach?

No, Servers as a Service has been designed to scale and flex with our customers’ requirements. We offer different configurations and our solution architects will assist you in selecting the correct specification, more servers can be added or scaled back as required.

Is this service for large customers only?

No. Small, medium and large businesses benefit. The service is modular starting with a single Blade server with capability for running Windows or Linux operating systems. It is an ideal environment for web based, application providers, who may wish to start on a small scale basis.

How are costs kept low? By offering customers a slice of our extensive investment in the shared technology infrastructure, with cost efficiencies ensured through leveraging our position as the leading independent IT group in Europe.

How secure is this solution? To simplify security management and to enhance performance, we manage security across three layers: data (virus/ spam filtering in the cloud), data access (HTTPS- 128-bit encryption) and at a Data Centre level. We also utilise the virtual networking infrastructure to provide additional security measures. We are ISO 27001 security accredited across all of our Data Centre services.

How do I purchase additional storage?

Storage is sold in 1TB capacities, either fibre channel (tier 1) or FATA/SATA (tier 2) disks. Within the virtualised servers a TB of FC disk is sold as standard. Capacity is monitored and we will work with you to ensure disk space is always available to the infrastructure.

Can customers manage their

own servers? Yes. The hosted option allows customers to manage their servers using their own internal tools and resources. Effectively, SCC provide the platform, either virtualised or dedicated blades, above this level the customer can manage their own infrastructure.

Can servers be fully managed? Yes. Using market-leading server monitoring and management tools we can deliver a complete managed solution, via our experienced Network Operations Centre (NOC).

Do you support virtualisation? The shared server infrastructure supports virtualisation and customers can utilise VM’d blades to run their applications and databases.

Can customers mix virtual

machines with physical servers? Yes. For example, it’s possible for application front-end servers to be Virtual Machines and database backend servers to be physical servers.

What happens if the blade server hosting a customer’s virtual machine fails?

The solution includes high availability, should a Blade fail, the service can be quickly transferred to a standby host server and restarted.
