ueridos amigos en Cristo: Les escribo con mi agradecimiento y


entusiasmo después de nuestra 37 Convención Diocesana Anual. Los talleres fueron muy productivos, las resoluciones necesarias fueron aprobadas, Diana Butler Bass nos proporcionó nuevos puntos de vista, y el Decano Richardson proclamo el Evangelio en su sermón durante la misa de la convención. Todo esto fueron bendiciones, pero lo más extraordinario fue el espíritu de comunidad diocesana.


Quiero asegurarles que estamos enfrentando tiempos difíciles y grandes retos en nuestros recursos. Pero por encima de todo y contra lo inevitable, hemos sentido el jubilo de estar juntos y un gran deseo de unirnos a participar en la misión de Dios.


Por eso es que después de todo nos preguntamos, “Que esta haciendo Dios?” como nuestro tema. Convencidos de que el Dios que adoramos es un Dios de mision y accion, buscamos y pensamos en unirnos a esta mision en las diferentes formas que Dios nos llama.

ear Friends in Christ, It is with abundant thanks


and enthusiasm that I write to you following our 37th Annual Diocesan Convention. The workshops were fruitful; necessary resolutions were passed; Diana Butler Bass provided us new insights; and Dean Richardson proclaimed the gospel in his Convention sermon. As blessed as all of this was, what I found truly remarkable was our spirit as a diocesan community.


To be sure, we are dealing with a challenging time and vexing questions of resources. Yet over and against these almost inevitable markers, others and I detected a joy at being together and a deep desire to engage in the mission of God.


That after all is why we asked the question, “What is God up to?” as our theme. Convinced that the God we worship is a God of mission and action, we seek in our discernment to join in that mission in the particular ways God calls us.

Por lo tanto, mientras entramos a la temporada de cuaresma y pensamos en la jornada de Jesús a Jerusalem cargando su cruz, pensemos en que dirección debemos ir con Jesús. Seamos fuertes y valientes para cargar nuestra propia cruz. Viajemos con El que va al frente y a nuestro lado.

we are charting our mission work for the next few years. In the days ahead you will be asked to consider, as the delegates of our convention did, a draft mission statement and a draft vision statement. I will tell you in advance they are provocative — as our Lord is provocative. They ask us to be daring and to cross borders.


If


followed, these


guidelines will cause us to be a different church.


And so, as we enter into the season of Lent and think about Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem and the cross, let us also ponder what journey we are to take, with Jesus. Let us not be fearful or deterred by the weight of our own cross. Let us travel with Him who goes both before us and beside us.
